A Universe of Stories
Summer Reaidng 2019Our Summer Reading Program will be here before you know it! We will discover brave new worlds, where there are A Universe of Stories to read!
The fun starts on Tuesday, June 11th at 10AM with Magician Jim Perry.
We have so much to offer this summer and it's all free of charge and open to the public!*
On Mondays we will alternate movies at 9AM and STEM sessions at 10AM. The movies are a little longer this year (2-2.5 hours) so we have to start early to get them in before it's lunch time! Our STEM sessions will focus on the Apollo 11's moon landing 50 years ago. We will build a rocket to get to the moon and try to figure out the best design for the rocket; we will build a moon lander; and then we will jump forward in time and build a robotic hand. Please register for the STEM sessions!
Each year, we try to get new entertainment and we have lots of new talent for you to enjoy this year! We have magician Jim Perry, Mad Science bringing their moon show, Absolute Science bringing their Bubble Show, Really READ-iclious, The Real Beal's One Man Band, musician Leonardo, and magician Chef Bananas! You will be amazed and entertained by our entertainers this year!
On Wednesdays, we have Garden Club at 9:15AM and Story Time at 10AM and 3PM! Our stories will all revolve around space, stars, astronauts and so much more!
Thursdays are our craft days! We are always trying to improve and please as many people as we can, so we are changing our craft times again! This year, day cares or larger groups with 6 or more kids can sign up for a craft at 9:30AM. Families and groups with 5 kids or less can sign up for craft times at 10:30 or 11:30AM. What fabulous things will we be making this year? I'm glad you asked! We will be making our own space pinball game, a pool noodle light saber, space suncatchers, space sand art, alien poppers and a zoetrope!
What in the world is a zoetrope? It is a pre-film animation device that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion.
Fridays bring more family-oriented fun! We will have Lap Sit for kids up to five years old and Lego Club where your imagination can run wild!
But, you say, we can't come during the week. Fear not! We have lots of Saturday events for you to enjoy! We will have Stir It Up, a kids cooking class that is meant to help kids learn to cook and for parents to enjoy the experience with them. We will have a family party with stomp rockets, life sized space invaders and more! We will also have a life sized Angry Birds Space Fling! This is your chance to try the game your love on a much larger scale!
Sadly, all of this fun will have to come to an end. We will have our Ice Cream Social/Closing Party on Saturday, July 27th. This is the party you don't want to miss! Not only is there ice cream, but this is where we will give away our Grand Prizes! If you finished your reading log this summer, you are entered for the Grand Prize. The K-5th grade Grand Prize is a trip for four to Chicago on Amtrak and passes to the museum of your choice! You must be present to win, so be sure to join us!
* All of our programs are open to anyone to attend, but we do require registration for the STEM sessions, crafts, and Stir It Up. Registration opens a week prior to the event.
