Title: Oral History for Beginners
Contact: Chris, 217-243-5435
Location: Jacksonville Public Library Meeting Room
Description: Oral history provides a fuller, more accurate picture of the past. It also enables people to share their stories in their own words, with their own voices, through their own understanding of what happened and why. The Detroit Historical Society (DHS) has been working on one such project which utilizes oral history called Detroit 67:  Looking Back to Move Forward. The DHS was even awarded the National Medal for Museum and Library Service in 2018 for the project which is the highest honor given to museums and libraries across the nation. The Detroit Historical Society will be here to discuss the ins and outs of oral history for the beginner as well as information about their award-winning project.
